Hosting on Cloudflare

The site, the downloads (downloads.usecuttle.com) and the license server (api.usecuttle.com) run on Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). To deliver them and protect them, for example against attacks, Cloudflare processes the data every request carries: your IP address, your browser's or the app's user agent, the address asked for and the time of the request.

The legal basis is the legitimate interest in delivering a working, secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Cloudflare may process this data outside the EU, including in the United States; it is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

Buying a license

Stripe sells Cuttle's licenses for us as the reseller, through Stripe Managed Payments. Stripe collects your payment details, billing address and e-mail address on its checkout page and handles the payment, taxes, receipts and refunds, as a controller under its own privacy policy (stripe.com/privacy).

From Stripe, the license server receives your e-mail address and the identifiers of the checkout, the payment and the customer, and learns whether a payment was refunded or disputed. It keeps them with your license: its key, its plan and when it was issued. We use them to issue the key, to show it again on the checkout's page, to help you if you lose it, and to withdraw a license whose payment was refunded or disputed. They are kept for as long as the license exists.

The legal basis is the purchase (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and the legitimate interest in preventing misuse of licenses (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

The app's checks

With a license entered, the Cuttle app asks the license server every few days whether it is still valid. It sends the license key and nothing else; the server notes the time of the last check. Once a day the app also asks downloads.usecuttle.com for a new version, which you can turn off in its settings. Neither sends anything about you or your recordings. The legal basis is the purchase (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and the legitimate interest in keeping Cuttle up to date and its licenses valid (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

E-mail

When you write, your e-mail address and your message are used to answer you. If you asked for early access, your address is kept to tell you when Cuttle is available, until you ask for it to be removed. The legal basis is your request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and, for the early-access list, your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time.

Your rights

You have the right to access the data about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable form. For questions and data requests, write to the e-mail above.

You can also complain to a supervisory authority; in Portugal that is the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (cnpd.pt).

The Cuttle app

Cuttle itself records, edits and exports on your computer and never uploads your recordings. A narration in an ElevenLabs voice, if you choose one, sends its text to ElevenLabs.
